JF, making me laugh when I've eaten as much as I have is not good for me.

That is an awesome spider, but I'm glad it lives at your house. ;-)

I have to admit to giving a good chuckle while I wrote that line. I'm not ashamed to admit that I love laughing at my own bad sense of humor. :)

I swear when I saw the first picture, my brain screamed the primal equivalent of "Kill it with fire!" Which I think, properly translated comes across as "AAAAAH! GRAG SMASH!" I think.

Then, I read the last line, and now I'm never taking a shower again. Well, okay, I will, but I'm never using a towel again.

macnut: the only thing I've blogged about beekeeping is this hate-filled screed about varroa mites. Overall, beekeeping has become a depressing occupation, because one is prevented from doing most of the cool stuff by these never-sufficiently-to-be-accursed mites that keep killing the bees. Since I wrote that, my bees were wiped out by them yet again, and I'm taking a year off to think, ponder, review advice, and decide what I'm going to do next time to try to keep the bees alive. It is not a happy time to keep bees.

Wait, wait, hold on a minute. Maybe it isn't an assassin bug after all! It looks more like one of these Long-Necked Seed Bugs.

So, they are no danger to you after all. Unless you are a strawberry.

Oh, it's OK. The assassin bug *is* your bodyguard. They eat bedbugs!

(Well, some of them do, anyway.)

I think seeing that on my porch would have me torn between two impulses:

1- (supported wholeheartedly by my wife, who hates bugs) would be to run to the store, get the biggest can of bug spray I could get, come back and wage CHEMICAL WARFARE! The problem with this, besides being counterattacked by a swarm of angry bees unleashing their own kind of chemical attack, would be an even bigger mess to clean up afterwards.

2- leave them alone, let them take the sugar, then trash the now-empty container. Problem with this is having to stay off my own porch for a week or more while the bees carted off the sugar, seeing how protective they were of this food bonanza.

Which course I would take depends entirely on how strong my aversion to being stung is (very strong) and how much my wife nagged me (we all know how women are when they want someone else to do something...)

tceisele, have you ever blogged about your beekeeping? I'd be interested in reading about a few daily activities in that area...
