This dragonfly stopped for a moment on the shrubs in front of my house yesterday along with a couple of green ones the same size. Dragonflies got their name because they are voracious predators of smaller insects. They feed by flying through the air with their legs hooked into a catch basket. When they see a bug, they fly over it really fast, scooping it up with their legs. Then they eat it in the air.

This particular dragonfly is a Meadowhawk; they are a smaller breed, barely reaching 50mm in length.
