Wolf Spider

At first I was convinced all the dark, darting objects in my lawn were
wolf spiders. Then I
reconsidered, and thought that, since they were in my lawn, they were
most likely grass spiders. I
finally managed to take a cool, and yet useful photo of one, zoomed in
(if you can’t see it, the image is centered on the spider, hiding in
the shadowed recesses of the mulch) and noted the eye pattern.
Answer: wolf spider.
Hooray for bugguide!

Dear Andrew,
I am very happy that your search on bugguide went so well. I’ve found that they’re an excellent resource for all aspiring bug-hunters. One thing caught my eye in your email though, and I find I need to respond.

Please understand that it is with a heavy heart that I have crossed you off of my list of “people whose homes I would be willing to visit.” I hope you understand.
Sincerely,
~JFargo

Ah - If that’s a Spider, this must be Friday.
Spiders are about the only thing moving in the garden at the moment, but I suspect they’re just too fast for me to get a good picture…
Nice photo though - that’s real, quality ‘Lurking’ - you don’t often see a serious lurk like that these days!
