I posted it to Bug Guide to see if they could ID it, and people there basically threw up their hands and said, "it's a brown caterpillar, what do you expect? Miracles? Probably some kind of cutworm." So, OK, I guess we can go with "cutworm" and leave it at that. The taxonomists should try to be more imaginative in their naming. "Sororiplopidae" has a nice ring to it.
