Peggy,

Of course! And if you could send me a picture of your painting when it is done, that would be great!

Thanks much for the compliment,
 Alan

I'd put in a link to the Bug Guide page in the previous comment, but for some reason it disappeared. The page is at:

Well, I'd say it's most likely a male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Papilio glaucus. The females evidently have a big patch of blue on the trailing edge of the wings, while the males do not, which is why I think it's a male. I'm guessing it's not the Western Tiger Swallowtail or the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail because Georgia is too far south and east for either of those, although they do look awfully similar.

Wow, beautiful picture! I can't identify it, myself, but think it's really cool.

When warmer weather comes, I'm going to be living in a new place, right outside of some wooded areas. I'm hoping to hone my bug-picture-taking skills! I have this creepy feeling, however, that my best pictures are going to be of spiders. Unfortunately, there just aren't many butterflies out here.

Alan, could I get your permission to do a painting from your photograph? It is a beautiful work of photographic art....I only dabble in acrylics and watercolors and have no intention of "selling" my art.
