This ladybug was cruising around the front yard at Howard and Sandra Tayler’s back in September. There were fully-grown ladybugs and a few larvae as well, so I wonder if some of them don’t overwinter like some caterpillars.

Well, according to what I’ve been able to find out about convergent lady beetles, Hippodamia convergens (which is what this one is), they overwinter as adults. The also can run from egg to adult in as little as 2-3 weeks, so it is quite possible that your September larvae managed to make adulthood before the first frost.
