Pretty Jumper

It’s the Return of Spider Friday! Reader Mark White sent in this picture of a female phidippus posing on the hood of his car. He estimates that she is about 13mm long. I really like this shot because it gives us a good look at her green chelicerae.
Notice the pure white markings; this indicates that she has passed her final molt and reached maturity. Were she younger, her light-colored hairs would have an orange tint to them, and her black areas would be slightly brown. Notice also that the hood of Mark’s car also lacks any tint; I can only presume that his auto has passed its final molt and reached maturity as well.
Mark says he shoots with a Sony DSC-H1 camera. He’s sent in some other great shots as well, so look for those to come up on the site soon!
